Tiznow Colt Overcomes Trouble in Indiana Derby

Tiz Shea D (Tiznow) pressed Mr. Z early on here, and was floated extremely wide by that rival at the head of the lane. Undeterred, he splashed home out wide by some 1 1/4 lengths from the fighting on Mr. Z, who just held off race favorite Divining Rod. A debut winner at Parx for Daniel Shea and trainer Jason Servis, the bay was second in the GIII Gotham S. at Aqueduct in March after being privately acquired and sent to Hall of Famer Bill Mott. A well-beaten fifth at 6-1 in the GI Wood Memorial S. in April and fourth in the GII Peter Pan S. in May, he was most recently second behind GIII Dwyer S. third Tommy Macho (Macho Uno) in an allowance on the GI Belmont S. undercard June 6. Tiz Shea D’s dam Ender’s Sister (A.P. Indy) produced a colt by Hard Spun in 2013; a filly by Giant’s Causeway in 2014; and a filly by Distorted Humor in 2015.
